New Porch in Berlin, MA
The client had an existing deck and wanted to add a cover to transform it into a beautiful porch, inspired by another Millhawlk project in Berlin ( https://millhawlk.com/portfolio/new-deck-and-porch-in-berlin-ma/ ).
Because the client requested that the project be completed before Mother’s Day, we fast-tracked our process by immediately developing 3D views for their approval. As soon as the client approved the design, we initiated the permitting process right away to avoid wasting a single second.
With the permit in hand, we began excavation. Digging during the ground thaw can be much more challenging than normal, but our team pushed through and got it done.
The footing inspection passed smoothly. The very next day, we began the framing process. Within just three days, the entire structure was up and ready for both the framing inspection and finish work.
After passing the framing inspection with zero issues, it was time for the finishes:
- Ceiling & Beams: The client chose a wood beadboard ceiling. As suggested by our design team, we also wrapped the interior beams with the same material to maintain a cohesive, warm wood look.
- Railings: Trex Select railings featuring black rounded balusters.
- Trim: Durable Azek PVC trim.
- Roofing: GAF asphalt shingles, utilizing metal step flashing for a seamless transition where the porch meets the existing house.
We wrapped up the job and passed the final inspection just before Mother’s Day, giving our client the perfect opportunity to celebrate and enjoy the holiday on their brand-new porch.
