Millhawlk Design & Construction Completes Finished Basement, with New Kitchen and Full Bath in Kingston, MA
The client had a 1,080 sqft unfinished basement and wanted to turn it into a fully finished basement with a modern and functional design. The new layout included a full bathroom with a stand-up shower, a laundry room with direct access to the playroom, and multiple entertainment and lifestyle areas. The basement plan featured a pool area, a custom kitchen with an island, a home gym, and a cozy TV room. This design combined the feel of a luxury man cave with the comfort of a family gathering space.

Natural Light and Flooring Solution
To improve natural light and meet safety requirements, we installed four egress windows. For flooring, the client wanted a cost-efficient yet durable solution. We recommended LVT vinyl flooring from Mohawk, which provides excellent durability, style, and easy maintenance. Before installation, we applied a moisture barrier membrane to prevent humidity from passing through the slab, ensuring long-lasting performance.

Custom Kitchen Design
The basement kitchen was built with alpine plywood cabinetry and sleek black handles. The countertops were finished in white quartz, paired with a subway tile backsplash for a timeless look. We also installed a central range hood vented to the exterior wall for proper ventilation.
Modern Full Bathroom
The bathroom featured black porcelain tile flooring and a stand-up shower with 4×8 white tiles, contrasted with black grout and modern black trims. The white vanity with a quartz countertop completed the clean, contemporary design.
Lighting, Electrical and HVAC
We installed recessed LED lighting, a dedicated sub panel, and smart wireless switches for modern convenience. For climate control, the basement was equipped with a dedicated mini-split system with three independent cassettes for efficient cooling. In addition, we connected the duct work to the existing central HVAC system for heat with returns and suplies, ensuring consistent comfort across all basement areas.
